Homemade Buttery Breadsticks

These Homemade Buttery Breadsticks are soft, fluffy, and irresistibly delicious. Perfect as a side for soups, salads, or pasta dishes, these breadsticks are brushed with a rich garlic butter that adds an extra layer of flavor. Easy to make, they will quickly become a family favorite!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water (about 110°F or 43°C)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (for brushing)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley (optional)

 

Cookware Needed

 

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Baking sheet
  • Clean kitchen towel
  • Rolling pin
  • Pastry brush

 

Directions


Step 1: Activate the Yeast.
In a small bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.

Step 2: Make the Dough.

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Pour in the activated yeast mixture and melted butter. Mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.

 

Step 3: Let the Dough Rise.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 15 minutes, or until doubled in size.

Step 4: Shape the Breadsticks.

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/2-inch thick.
  • Cut the dough into strips (about 1 inch wide) and twist each strip to form breadsticks. Place them on a greased baking sheet.

 

Step 5: Brush with Butter.

In a small bowl, melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter. Stir in garlic powder and dried parsley (if using).
Brush the melted garlic butter over the twisted breadsticks.

Step 6: Bake.
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

Step 7: Serve.
Remove from the oven and brush with any remaining garlic butter. Serve warm.
