Ingredients

  • 1 package of ready-made puff pastry (thawed)
  • 1 cup of sweet filling (such as chocolate spread, brown sugar, and cinnamon mixture, or fruit preserves)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Flour (for dusting)
  • Cookware Needed
  • Rolling pin
  • 6-inch round cookie cutter
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Pastry brush
  • Small round cookie cutter (about 2 inches)

Cookware Needed

  • Rolling pin
  • Cookie cutter (6-inch)
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Pastry brush

Directions

Step 1: Prepare the Oven and Baking Sheet:

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

Step 2: Roll Out the Puff Pastry:

  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry to smooth it out. Use a 6-inch round cookie cutter to cut out circles from the pastry. You should be able to get about 12 circles from one package.

Step 3: Add the Filling:

  • Place one of the circles on a clean surface. Spread a generous layer of your chosen sweet filling in the center, leaving about a half-inch border around the edges.

Step 4: Create the Center Reference:

  • Use a smaller round cookie cutter (about 2 inches) and place it in the center of the filled circle. This will serve as a guide for cutting the outer sections.

Step 5: Cut the Snowflake Design:

  • Using a sharp knife, cut the larger circle into 16 equal sections, starting from the edge and stopping at the smaller circle in the center. Be careful not to cut through the center circle.

Step 6: Shape the Snowflake:

  • Take two adjacent sections and twist them towards each other, pinching the ends together to create a snowflake shape. Repeat this twisting and pinching for all sections until the entire pastry is shaped.

Step 7: Egg Wash:

  • In a small bowl, beat the egg to create an egg wash. Using a pastry brush, gently brush the tops of the shaped pastries with the egg wash to give them a nice golden color when baked.

Step 8: Bake:

  • Place the shaped pastries on the prepared baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until they are puffed and golden brown.

Step 9: Cool and Serve:

  • Once baked, remove the pastries from the oven and allow them to cool slightly on a wire rack. Serve them warm or at room temperature.

These Festive Snowflake Puff Pastries are not only visually stunning but also simple to make, making them a perfect holiday treat. With endless filling options, they can be customized to suit everyone’s taste. Gather the kids for a fun baking session and enjoy these delightful pastries as a sweet addition to your holiday celebrations!
